ARIZONA FOR ABORTION ACCESS UPDATES

CANVAS WITH FELLOW NWMC MEMBERS

In coordination with our campaign partners, LWVAZ is collecting AAA signatures via door-knocking.  We are targeting registered voters who are likely to support abortion access and have not yet signed the AAA petition. We'll ask them to sign or leave behind a flyer with info about a nearby hub.   This is part of a 3-touch model, which research shows is the most effective way to activate a voter. Our first touch was the Signature Slam Text-A-Thon where volunteers texted over 200K voters to drive traffic to the signing locations via Mobilize.  The door-knocking effort will be a subset of those 290K we are texting.
Dates and times are: Sunday, April 28th, 9am-12pm and Saturday, May 4th, 9am-12pm
Please contact Tina Mollica, 623-326-1952, if you can help with this effort.  The more volunteers we have the more doors we can knock and the more signatures we can gather. The optimal team is 3 people - one driver and two people to walk the street.  So far we have one team, but need at least two more!

SIGNATURE COLLECTION

The Arizona for Abortion Access initiative has collected over 500K signatures to date.  To date, the LWV has submitted 2906 signatures.  Our goal is to reach at least 10,000! In March LWVNWMC turned in over 200 signatures.  Let's meet our 300+ signature goal in April & May.  In wake of the Arizona Supreme Court ruling on the 1864 abortion ban, it is even more important to get this initiative on the ballot in November. Arizona Republicans are considering introducing several new ballot measures to counter a proposed constitutional amendment that would protect abortion rights in the state as they continue to squash efforts to repeal the abortion ban.
  • Canvas with NWMC 4/28 and 5/4

  • Volunteer for an event on Mobilize

  • Collect at trailheads, Maricopa community colleges, coffee shops and other local spots

  • Ask friends to help collect signatures.  Share the Dos & Donts and the training video

Turn in Your Notarized Petitions

Petitions can often be notarized by your local bank.  LWVMP member Rivko Knox has also offered her services as a notary.  She lives in Glendale (N of Thunderbird and E of 31st Ave). Please contact her (bvaandrk@gmail.com OR 602-430-5287) to set up an appointment if you need a notary. If anyone needs notary training, email elaine@arizonalist.org and training will be scheduled as needed. They emphasize petition quality control with the training. Notaries are the last eyes on petitions before they are finalized.  Please return any notarized petitions to Tina Mollica (623-326-1952) or Lois Hansen 623-225-9738 ASAP.  Let’s reach our goal of 333 signatures in April!
