2024 LEGISLATIVE LOBBY WEEK

SAVE THE DATES

Join us for the 2024 LWVAZ Annual Legislative Lobby Week, featuring a Lobby Day at the Arizona Capitol on Friday, Feb. 23, and virtual Lunch and Learn programs on Monday, Feb. 19, Tuesday, Feb. 20, Wednesday, Feb. 21, and Thursday, Feb. 22. This year's legislative week revolves around the theme "Protecting Elections and Saving Democracy".

LUNCH AND LEARN

Participate in our popular virtual Lunch and Learn sessions, available to League members and the general public. Our speakers, including experts in key areas of Arizona League advocacy and senior legislative staff members, will cover the current legislative landscape and guide you on advocating for issues important to you. All sessions are conducted on Zoom and begin promptly at noon.

All lunch and learn sessions are from 12-1:00 (1:30 depending on Q&A)

  • Tuesday Feb 20, - Registration Link

    • Will the Electoral Count Reform Act Shake up Arizona Election Certification

    • Presenters: Campaign Legal Center and All Voting Is Local

  • Wednesday Feb 21,  - Registration Link 

    • Can legislation prevent the impact of AI deep fakes on elections?

    • Presenters:  Jonah Minkoff-Zern, Campaign Co-Director, Public Citizen's Democracy Campaign (PCDC), Invited Arizona Senator Sundershan and Representative Kolodin to talk about their respective bills.

    • Legislation can mitigate the impact of AI deep fakes on elections by implementing robust measures to detect, regulate, and penalize the creation and dissemination of deceptive content. Join the conversation to understand and advocate for effective regulatory solutions.

  • Thursday  Feb 22, Registration Link

    • Ballot measures (How does “stuff” get on our ballot?)

    • Presenters:  Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC), LWVAZ Cindy Walsh and Pinny Sheoran

LEGISLATIVE LOBBY DAY AT THE CAPITOL

The state League will cover lunch and refreshments for the day, and donations to offset our costs are greatly appreciated. The Legislative Lobby Day is an exclusive members-only event; only current dues-paid members will receive registration confirmation. Registration from nonmembers will be canceled.

  • Date: Feb 23

  • Time: 9:00 - 10:00 (check-in and breakfast); Program begins at 10:00 a.m. (please be seated by 9:45)

  • Venue: Arizona Capitol, 1700 W Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85007

  • Meeting Location: Breakfast and Lunch - Conference room first floor; Program presentations - 2nd Floor Governors conference room

  • Parking: West side of the Capitol campus. For transportation arrangements, contact local league leaders regarding carpooling or other logistics.

  • Speakers: Dr. Deborah Turner, LWV US President; Adrian Fontes, Secretary of State; Legislative Leaders of the House and Senate have been invited to speak.

MEET YOUR LEGISLATORS

The registration form will include a place to request appointments with your state senators and representatives. League interns will schedule the appointments. In the spirit and purpose of League Legislative Lobby Day, we ask all league members to advance league advocacy work and priorities during meetings with legislators. League policy handouts  will be provided before the meetings.

For over 100 years, the League of Women Voters has been a nonpartisan, activist, grassroots, national organization that believes voters should play a critical role in democracy.  Your gift will help support voter services and education, outreach at collaborative nonpartisan events, team meeting activities, membership meetings, newsletters and more.

There are two kinds of donations that can be made.

1. LWVNWMC is a registered Arizona nonprofit corporation as a 501©(4) organization.  Donations to this entity may be used for advocacy and lobbying efforts to support our Public Policy Positions and are NOT tax-deductible.

2.  The LWVNWMC Education Fund it a tax-deductible 501©(3) charitable organization. Funds contributed to the Education Fund will be used for educational purposes only. To receive a tax-deductible benefit, you must address your check to LWVNWMC EDUCATION FUND.
