REQUEST TO SPEAK

Request to Speak  (RTS)  is an online real-time system that allows the public to register opinions on bills being heard in committee. You can indicate whether you are “for” or “against” a bill, write a brief comment explaining your position, and register your willingness to speak (testify) during the committee hearing.  Please note that when you are using RTS, you are speaking for yourself as a registered voter, not as a league member.  If you do not have an RTS account, you can request one with the RTS account google form.

ARIZONA FOR ABORTION ACCESS

AAA Petition
Join the League to support the Arizona for Abortion Access ballot initiative for abortion rights. Together, we can qualify and pass an initiative to ensure that the Arizona constitution guarantees women the right to decide what happens to their bodies. Let’s let Arizona voters decide.  You can pick up materials at one of our NWMC Hubs.  Contact Tina Mollica:  623-326-1952 or Lois Hansen: 623-335-9738.

All petition gatherers should review the LWVAZ Petition Gathering Training and read the AAA Petitions: DOs & DONTs List.  Additional live signature gathering training sessions will be posted on Mobilize https://www.mobilize.us/hcra/.

Event Ideas include:

Decline to Sign

AAA is starting to see isolated instances of people putting together “decline to sign” initiatives. They have not been violent or interactive - just people holding signs.  Volunteers should know that this initiative (abortion access) is supported by the majority of Arizonans. In fact, Indivisible said that their hecklers “actually drew more signatures because people walking by wondered what was happening”.  Arizona List is tracking any incidents and has a hotline: (520) 327-0520

SWAG

T-shirts, posters, buttons, etc. are currently available at HRC HQ and some AZ List locations.  We are hoping to have them at our NW Valley hubs soon.  The Phoenix Healthcare Rising office is located at 7776 South, Pointe Pkwy W STE 170, Phoenix, AZ 85044. Hours: M-F: 8am-5pm (closed from 1-2pm).

ARIZONA FOR ABORTION ACCESS PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 11th, 2024

250,000 SIGNATURES AND COUNTING: ARIZONA FOR ABORTION ACCESS DEMONSTRATES BROAD SUPPORT

PHOENIX, AZ — Today, Arizona for Abortion Access announced it has already collected more than 250,000 signatures since launching its paid and volunteer petition-gathering efforts in late September.  This figure demonstrates strong support for the ballot initiative campaign, which must collect 383,923 valid signatures from Arizona voters by July 3, 2024.
Statement from Chris Love, spokesperson for Arizona for Abortion Access:
“Today, Arizona for Abortion Access is proud to announce we have collected more than 250,000 signatures from across the state. Arizonans are clearly eager to protect the fundamental right to abortion and ensure people can make their own decisions about their own reproductive health without government interference. It’s time for us to make sure Arizona’s constitution reflects the values of the twenty-first century, not the nineteenth. We look forward to continuing our signature gathering efforts in the coming months and building on our broad coalition of support.”
