ARIZONA FOR ABORTION ACCESS CITIZENS INITIATIVE PETITION DRIVE

LWVAZ is a partner with several other organizations to gather petition signatures for this issue with the hope that it will qualify for the November 2024 ballot. If passed, it will add an amendment to the AZ Constitution ensuring a women’s right to reproductive healthcare. Training for petition signature gatherers was offered in early November. Watch for future dates.  Additional opportunities to engage in the AAA Campaign:

  • Volunteers needed to have their home serve as Depots and Hubs to manage the process.  Complete the short survey.  Complete the short survey for LWVAZ.

  •  AAA Volunteer Survey

  • Circulator Training for league members collecting signatures is recommended for all volunteers including Depots and Hubs and those who want to learn more about the petitions.

Petition I-05-2024 Arizona Abortion Access Act

The League’s Role

The League of Women Voters of Arizona has a key role as a member of the field committee organized under the auspices of Health Care Rising (HCR).   We have committed to obtaining a minimum of 10,000 signatures supporting the Arizona for Abortion Access ballot measure. The deadline for submitting signatures to the Arizona Secretary of State is July 3, 2024. Our goal is to submit our petitions to the campaign by June 30, 2024, to allow time for the campaign to quality-check the petitions.

The League petitions are identified by numbers within a range. For the League to get credit for the signatures, we urge our members to seek out a League location and sign our petitions.

READ THE ARIZONA PETITION CIRCULATOR TRAINING GUIDE HERE

It is very important that each person wanting to collect signatures, take the training or read the  Arizona Petition Circulator Training Guide.  More trainings are planned.  Watch this space.

Outreach Circle

Submitted by Gitelle Seer, LWVMP
I want to share some exciting news. We will use League in Action/Outreach Circle, a league-branded digital organizing tool for calls to action (including legislative calls to action), event notifications, get-out-the-vote, need-to-know messages, candidate contact for VOTE411 during election season, and more.
League in Action, powered by Outreach Circle, will enable you to quickly and seamlessly reach out to other league members, the public, friends, and family with targeted messages. Some of you may be familiar with Outreach Circle; League in Action is an expanded and more powerful organizing tool that has capabilities beyond texting.
Please attend one of our upcoming training sessions to learn how to leverage this tool; pre-registration is required.

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY, NOV 20, 2023

Nov 2023Our October meeting was a lively discussion on Rogue Justice by Stacy Abrams.  We could not decide on a book for November. So, we decided that everyone should read a separate book (your favorite or a new one) and tell us at the next meeting why we should read this book. The next discussion will be on zoom at 3:00 p.m. (AZ time) on Monday, November 20, 2023.  We will send a link before that day so look for it. Hoping to see many of you then.

SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES FREE, ONLINE CIVIC COURSES FOR ADULTS
Civics 101 fills the civics knowledge gap for countless American adults who never had civics in school

Sandra Day OConnorThe Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy today announced the debut of Civics 101: a new, free, online civics course geared toward adult learners, countless numbers of whom never received civics education when they were in school.
The course will be rolled out in phases, with the first series, twelve micro-lessons—the Foundations of American Democracy—live and online now. Each micro-lesson can be completed in less than ten minutes, which is ideal for adults with busy schedules who want to learn when they have free time, and at their own pace.
“We heard over and over from adults, some of whose children were learning civics in school, that they wanted the opportunity to enhance their own civics knowledge,” said Institute Director of Civic Education Ben Maynard. “We created Civics 101 to fill that unmet need.”  Additional civics micro-lessons will be added including topics such as the elections process and citizenship.
Civics 101 is available free of charge at
