    RANK CHOICE VOTING

    Rank Choice Voting Example

Ranked choice voting (RCV), also known as instant runoff voting (IRV) is an innovative and intuitive voting method that gives voters more voice, choice, and power in the political system. By giving voters the option to rank candidates in order of preference, the system guarantees the winner of an election actually has majority support (over 50%) and that voters can express themselves honestly, while providing increased electoral opportunities for underrepresented groups. Ranked Choice Voting is gaining in popularity nationwide. Currently, Alaska and Maine use RCV for state elections. Nevada voted to pass it in 2022 and will have to pass again in 2024 before implementing.  In addition, 62 cities and counties across the United States use RCV. There may be an RCV ballot initiative in the next few years in Arizona. The RCV Issue Team invites league members curious about RCV and its potential to benefit Arizona voters to join us and help monitor related legislation and educate others about this important election reform. LWVAZ ADVOCACY COMMITTEE—PLEASE COMPLETE THIS SHORT SURVEY FOR 2024 BY SEPT. 13, 2023

    Please complete SURVEY here

The State Advocacy Committee will recommend our 2024 state advocacy priorities to the state board based on input from members in good standing, i.e., dues have been paid for this fiscal year ending July 1, 2024.  Please indicate your advocacy priorities by ranking the issues below. Kindly rank a minimum of your top 3. Use the slider bar at the end of the question to see all choices.
We appreciate your feedback to help us plan our work. However, we won't be able to do it without you. If you are interested in working on a particular issue team, please complete the second part of the survey, and we will contact you with details about the different aspects of state issue-based advocacy. Tasks may include reading and summarizing bills' impact, monitoring bills' progress and updating our legislative tracker, helping write testimony, drafting articles and letters to officials, researching, social media messaging and podcasts, and organizing our work product. Our advocacy work is done collaboratively, and training and support is readily available.
Thank you so much for your commitment to "Making Democracy Work."
